How to Be an Ally

February 23, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

What does it mean to be Anti-racist?  As we strive for greater social justice in our country, what is the difference between Diversity Work and Anti-Racism Work?  Incorporating an overview of relevant events in our nation’s history, we will explore what members of the dominant culture can do to become allies with people of color, to work toward the goal of a functioning multi-racial democracy and Dr. King’s dream of the beloved community. Rev. Michael J. Carter, our presenter, is an ordained Inter-faith minister and Board-Certified Chaplain who holds a Master of Divinity Degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He was trained as an anti-racism trainer, and has been recognized by President Clinton for his efforts. He has been a facilitator and Diversity Consultant for numerous organizations and corporations in North Carolina where he currently lives, and has also worked as an adjunct professor for A.T. Still University and at Western Carolina University, where he teaches Cross-Cultural Counseling to graduate students. Virtual event accessible by internet or phone. Free and open to all.  Registration required. Please go to our website Villageoftakomapark.com or call 301-646-2109 for information and to register.
