The Old Takoma Business Association’s Takoma Micro-Grant program is available to businesses that are located in the Takoma Commercial Corridor (see MAP – includes 4th St, NW, Butternut St, NW, Carroll Avenue, Carroll St, NW, Cedar St, NW, Eastern Avenue, Ethan Allen Avenue, Grant Avenue, Laurel Avenue, Maple Avenue, Maple St, NW, Westmoreland Avenue, Willow St, NW). Grants are maximum $2,000 and funds are very limited. Funds are available from generous community donations and a grant from DC’s Department of Small and Local Business Development (this portion is limited to DC-based businesses only).
ELIGIBLE PROJECTS
• Façade Improvements – lighting, signage, awnings, painting, patio improvements, doors, windows
• Physical property improvements – lighting, flooring, shelves
• Equipment purchase – point of sale, refrigerator, air conditioning, other business equipment, security systems, interior lighting*
• Rent, wages, utilities
The above list is intended to offer ideas and is not a complete listing of projects that will be considered.
* Note about Security Systems: If you are a Takoma Park, MD Business, do not apply for security related expenses, we will have another grant coming soon. If you are Takoma, DC based business, you must also apply for DC government rebate to receive up to $750.
PROJECTS COMPLETED PRIOR TO APPLICATION:
Projects completed between February 1, 2022 and the date of the grant application is submitted will also be considered.
BUSINESS ELIGIBILITY
Business must be located in the Takoma Commercial Corridor (see MAP)
Old Takoma Business Association will not provide a grant to any of the following types of businesses/entities:
– Home-based businesses
– Churches
– Nonprofit organizations
– Gas and service stations
– Banks
– Government agencies
– Medical Practices
– Professional Service Organizations
– Real Estate Companies
APPLICATION REVIEW AND SCORING
Applications will be reviewed by the Old Takoma Business Association Board of Director’s Grant Review Committee. The Old Takoma Business Association Board of Directors is made up of business owners, property owners, and residents from both Takoma Park, MD and Takoma, DC.
Applications will be scored on Business Impact, Community Impact and Need. Preference will be given to street front businesses.
DEADLINE AND IMPORTANT DATES
Application Deadline: Wednesday, July 13th, 2022, 5:00 pm.
Grant Awards Announced: by Wednesday, July 20, 2022.
Grant Checks Awarded: by Friday August 12th, with Signed Grant Agreement and W-9 submitted by business.
Final Reports: due by Friday, September 30, 2022.
Any funds not expended as proposed by September 30, 2022, must be returned.
