Announcing Main Street Pearl Coming to Takoma Park

Main Street Pearl Bubbly Bar Opening in Early 2021

Main Street Pearl is an independently-owned “bubbly bar” storefront on Takoma Park’s main commercial street taking over the space currently occupied by Great Shoals Winery Tasting Room which will be closing at the end of this month. “Pearl” opens in early 2021 offering its cornerstone bubble beverage – bubble tea – and a number of curated, ethically-sourced bubbly drinks including beer, wine, cider, kombucha, and scratch soda.

Leandra Nichola, a longtime Takoma Park resident with more than a decade of experience in community development, retail, and food service, is launching Pearl to bring something fun, joyous, and interesting to the main street offerings. By focusing on “filling the gap” in beverages not currently featured in Takoma, sourcing from food entrepreneurs to amplify local brands, and seeking to establish a comfortable, welcoming place for everyone from small children to elderly neighbors, Leandra envisions Main Street Pearl as a community touchstone and gathering place. From art on the walls to events with community partners to featuring other micro entrepreneurs, it will be much more than a bubble tea shop.

A mom of two, Leandra is committed to welcoming tweens and teens into the space, as business collaborators and customers. She is already weaving her children’s vision and interests into her entrepreneurial endeavors, and anchoring the brand in youthful energy and multi-generational placemaking. The shop will offer a kid-preneur corner where youth team members will source, price, and sell small items inspired by the “tuck shops” of Leandra’s youth in her hometown, Toronto.

Pearl will be grounded in Leandra’s commitment to build a values-based business that is uncompromising in its social and environmental responsibility. From only using reusable and compostable service items, building a vegan menu, partnering with nonprofit organizations, serving the highest quality ingredients, and being mindful of having a price point for every Takoma Park resident, the shop is a reflection of her long standing love for Takoma and her passionate, values-driven life.
