Takoma Park Cooperative Nursery School Admissions Info Session
January 11, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
FreeOur enrollment season begins in December and extends through February for
the upcoming school year. Our enrollment process mirrors our commitment to
parent education. We schedule three information sessions to share our
educational philosophy and our parent participatory model. In addition to
these sessions we schedule, by appointment, classroom tours. You can sign
up for a classroom tour at one of the information sessions.
We encourage prospective and returning parents to attend both an
information session and a classroom tour. *Please note that this is for adults only. Babies in arms welcome*
There’ll be three sessions this winter:
• Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at 7:30 p.m.
• Saturday, January 11, 2020, at 1:00 p.m.
• Thursday, January 16, 2020, at 7:30 p.m.
The Cooperative School is a parent-participatory program for children ages 2–5. The school intentionally fosters learning and relationships for both children and parents. Students learn to be creative thinkers. They learn fundamental skills needed for future classroom settings. And they learn how to be part of a community. Parents participate in the classroom, see their child’s development firsthand, and—in a supportive community of families—gain a full toolbox of parenting skills.
The Cooperative School is:
Arts-based: Children explore artistic techniques through visual arts, storytelling, music, and physical movement.
Play-based: The language of play helps forge relationships between children and encourages problem solving and a willingness to explore the world.
Nature-infused: Children go on regular forest outings and spend time around a campfire. Also, the school’s outdoor play space is a classroom, using repurposed natural materials (logs, rocks) and architecturally designed spaces (tea house, sand pit) to facilitate learning through imaginary play. We play outside every day—in nearly all weather.
