Saturday Morning Coffee & Chat: Children’s Literacy

Join us for a morning of sharing ideas and discussion. Beginning in October on the second Saturday of every month, we will host morning coffees. These are free and open to the public.

Saturday mornings from 10-11:30am.

Topics are related to early childhood development. Light fare, coffee, and tea will be served. Events are open to member families and the community members. Certificates of participation will be provided for teachers and early childhood providers. RSVP [email protected]

October 12. Mapping with Children.
Exploration of space supports brain development, independence, and resiliency. With mapping, children also develop literacy and math skills. We’ll present a variety of mapping techniques and how to use both real life exploration and literature selections to support mapping.

November 9. Math. In this session, we will dive in to the deep and wide pool of number stories. What are number stories? Jump in and join us!

December 14. Felting Make and Take. Join us for a session of creating with wool. Supplies will be provided to begin your wool journey. Maybe there will be some holiday gifts in the making for your friends and family!

January 11. Literacy, Thematic Literature.

How to revisit complex texts and picture books with children, young and old. We will also talk about how to unpack themes with children.

February 8. Games with Young Children.

Games are a wonderful resource for supporting turn-taking, cooperative rules, and imagination, but how do you learn a new game AND teach it at the same time? What makes a great game for long-lasting fun? This is a hands-on play day and please bring your favorite game to share!

March 14. Balancing Freedom and Structure at Home how to create routines for sharing and listening with an eye toward resolving conflict, crafting rules, promoting problem- solving, and resiliency.

April 4. Fairy Houses Make and Take. How to source materials and build a variety of fairy houses with young children. Supplies will be provided to make one (or more) fairy houses to start your own fairy village at home.
