We’ll practice functional movement, ways to adapt and shift yoga postures to beat serve the postpartum body.

Pregnancy, by definition, disrupts the structure and function of our core muscles. This is a natural physiological occurrence that comes with pregnancy; as baby grows and the hormone relaxin surges through the pregnant body, abdominals expand and lose some of their ability to stabilize the body. While this is part of the experience of pregnancy, diastasis and having a lifetime of dreading core exercises don’t have to be your new ‘normal’.

Through the tools of yoga this workshop will explore gentle core strengthening and stabilizing exercises, breathwork that actively uses the abdominals, and postural habits that will bring your whole body a sense of strength and stability. Participants will learn how to check their own diastasis, how to move using the core even while holding baby, and why rest and breath are the foundation of core rehabilitation.

This workshop is a great way to utilize yoga as a healing tool for diastasis, weak core as a result of pregnancy and birth, as well as reconnecting to abdominals after cesarean. We’ll practice functional movement, ways to adapt and shift yoga postures to beat serve the postpartum body.
