Open Mic Fundraiser for No Justice No Pride
November 9 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
We would like to invite you to Maitri House’s open-mic fundraiser for NoJustice No Pride Collective, which supports many Black and Brown Trans folks with housing (both long-term and emergency) and has become a leading hub for grassroots support to Trans Sex Workers in the DMV. After an exhausting campaign to initially secure housing this summer, the Collective has an ongoing need for funds to ensure their members and network have a safe and stable place to stay.
When: Saturday, November 9, 7-9 PM (doors 6:45, performances 7:15-8:45)
Where: Maitri House in Takoma Park (email firstname.lastname@example.org for the address!)
What: Bring something to read or sing or show to us!
· Note: Our living room is not equipped with a sound system or a large space to move around, but it does provide an intimate setting to share).
· Please plan on having up to three minutes to share (we want to make to make sure everyone who wants to has a chance!)
· You aren’t required to share – we welcome you to come to witness others – but please consider it! Maritza Rivera, a local poet and founder of the Mariposa poetry retreats, will act as emcee and encourager for participants.
· We will provide snacks but not a full-fledged meal.
How: Donations will be collected at the event; you can also donate to NJNP directly online. We are suggesting a donation of $25; our overall goal for the night is $1,000.
Accessibility: We want our house to be safe for all of us, including people with chemical sensitivities, so please no perfume or other fragranced products.
Our house is not currently wheelchair accessible as defined by the ADA Guidelines (we have four steps up to the front and the bathroom clearances are too small.)
We do not have sign language interpreters currently confirmed for this event.
We hope to see you there! Please do not hesitate to email email@example.com with any questions.
