A Swedish Fiddle Tune for Norwegian Independence Day with Mari Carlson

May 16, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

$35

A Swedish Fiddle Tune for Norwegian Independence Day (or, a musical Hurrah! for the end of the school year)

Students will learn a fiddle tune, a polska called “Fin er du”, in honor of syttende mai (May 17), Norwegian Independence Day. The tune is Swedish but there are words Mari will sing in Norwegian. Sweden and Norway both celebrate the end of school on this holiday.

We will start by getting used to the polska rhythm by moving to the beat, then we’ll add the bowing pattern, then the notes. We will learn by ear, in keeping with the way music is learned in this tradition.

This is a great opportunity for students to expand repertoire, learn a new or unfamiliar style, and to enhance the “dance-ablility” of any fiddle tune.

This workshop is geared towards beginning and intermediate fiddlers of all ages, or anyone interested in learning music from this tradition.
