Main Street Committees
Main Street Takoma Committees
The Main Street Takoma committees are the driving force of the Main Street Takoma iniative. The committees are entirely volunteer and are open and welcoming to newcomers who are interested in making a difference in Old Takoma. Each committee meets monthly. Design Committee
The Design Committee focuses on the physical appearance and health of the community. Projects of the committee include:
- Clean-Up Days in April and October to make Old Takoma sparkle: plant, weed, mulch and pick up trash.
- Holiday store-front window display competition and window design support
- Flower Pots and Key Hole Garden -- installation and maintenance of flowers in front of businesses
- Directional signage
- Adopt a Tree/Adopt a Spot -- encouraging business owners and residents to committ to the care of a particular area
- Facade Improvement Program, with matching grants from the State of Maryland Neighborhood Business Works program and from DC Council. At this time, all grant funds have been allocated, but the City of Takoma Park and DC Ward 4 may have similar programs. Call the OTBA office to check on details.

Ecomic Restructuring Committee
The Economic Restructuring Committee works on issues of business mix, retention and recruitment, networking with the various levels of government, and so on. Projects include:
- Market Analysis Report and Strategic Action Plan
- Revolving Loan fund for Businesses
- Parking -- issues of availability and management of it
- Outreach to commercial property owners
- Mapping commercial properties
- Business assessments
- Quarterly meetings for business owners

Promotions Committee
The Promotions Committee is responsible for both events and activities in the Old Takoma area as well as outreach and advertising to a broader audience. Current projects include:
- Monthly events in Old Takoma (Calendar)
- Marketing Old Takoma businesses
- Business to Business Marketing Kit
- Annual Coupon Book

Organization Committee
The Organization Committee provides the structural support for the entire Main Street Takoma effort. Current work includes:

We have four standing committees:
- Design, which works on the physical appearance of the area;
- Economic Restructuring, which focuses on business retention and recruitment;
- Promotions, which seeks to highlight local businesses to the broader Washington area, as well as create events and activities that bring people to Old Takoma;
- Organization, which provides the structure for the whole organization and the work of the other committees.
