Educational Institutions, Local Districts and Resources
District of Columbia Public Schools - School Directory, Core Beliefs and other information
Homeschooling Resources - We have a large number of home-schooled students in the area. This is a start to provide information.
Montgomery College - Our mission states that “We are the community’s college.” A variety of activities, programs and facilities are available on each campus to county residents.
Montgomery County Public Schools - Montgomery County's (Maryland) school system, located in the Washington D.C. suburbs, is the 16th largest in the United States. Ninety percent of our students graduate.
Strayer College - Undergraduate and graduate programs in high-demand fields such as accounting, business, education, health services administration, information systems, and public administration are available at this campus.
Takoma Childrens School - Progressive year-round preschool serving 2 to 5 year-old children and their families with part-time through full-day options. Our school's outstanding teachers and staff provide a nurturing, safe, and fun-filled environment that fosters creativity and a love of learning through play and exploration.
Takoma Park Cooperative Nursery School - For more than 60 years, The Cooperative School has stood by its original mission—to build a nurturing educational community. At our school, generations of children, parents, and teachers have taken their first steps in learning together.

Crossroads Farmers Market - From September 16 through the end of the market season (October 28) we'll be open from 2-6pm. Rain or Shine. Come join us on Holton Lane.

Takoma Park Farmers Market - Welcome to the Takoma Park Farmers Market, the Washington DC-area's premiere producers-only market for over twenty years. The market operates year round on Sundays from 10am to 2pm.
Takoma Park Silver Spring Co-op - The Takoma Park Silver Spring Co-op is a full service vegetarian-friendly grocery store. We are a cooperative business owned by your friends and neighbors. Started by neighborhood residents, TPSS Co-op has been providing quality natural foods and other products to the Takoma Park and Silver Spring communities for over two decades.
Whole Foods - Our full service supermarket is located in the downtown Silver Spring business district, an area quickly becoming recognized for its vast revitalization and dedication to the arts. You can find us at corner of Wayne Avenue and Fenton.
Greening Your Community
Community Forklift -We’re lifting up communities with low-cost building materials! At our very large warehouse, you can donate new and used building materials to receive a tax deduction, or you can purchase materials at prices that are 40% - 80% below retail. Located in greater Hyattsville, Maryland, we serve the Washington DC metro area. We are a project of Sustainable Community Initiatives, a 501c3 nonprofit organization.

Holy Cross Hospital - Located in Silver Spring, Maryland, just north of Washington, D.C., and near the Capital Beltway and Metro, the hospital primarily serves residents of the state’s two largest jurisdictions, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.
Walter Reed Army Medical Center - The Walter Reed Health Care System (WRHCS) is an integrated health care delivery system offering military families, in and around Washington, D.C., access to quality, comprehensive medical care.
Washington Adventist Hospital - Located at 7600 Carroll Avenue in Takoma Park MD. A Full service hospital facility.
Washington Hospital Center - Washington Hospital Center is the largest private hospital in the nation’s capital. The Hospital Center was founded in March 1958, when three specialty hospitals merged to form a single institution. The not-for-profit hospital is a proud member of MedStar Health system and shares a 47-acre campus with three medical facilities in Northwest Washington, D.C.

Attend a Main Street Committee meeting & help your Main Street!
We have four standing committees:
- Design, which works on the physical appearance of the area;
- Economic Restructuring, which focuses on business retention and recruitment;
- Promotions, which seeks to highlight local businesses to the broader Washington area, as well as create events and activities that bring people to Old Takoma;
- Organization, which provides the structure for the whole organization and the work of the other committees.
